Emblem
Dennis “Denny” Volhard, age 81, originally of Mosinee, WI, was received into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Feb 15th, 2023, in Waconia, MN. Denny was born on August 1st, 1941, to the late Leo and Marian Volhard. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Mosinee where he was baptized into eternal life as a child and later confirmed in his faith.

Denny graduated from Mosinee High School in 1959. After high school he enlisted in the National Guard where he served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Shortly after his return, Denny took a position at Mosinee Paper, where he worked for 43 years before retiring to spend more time with his family. He met the love of his life, Jean Volhard, and they married on April 8th, 1967. They raised their two children in the home that Denny built with help from their family and friends on Circle Drive in Kronenwetter.

Denny was passionate about music. He loved to play guitar and sing, especially songs by Elvis, and played for many years in a local polka band called the “Polka Knights”. It was always a special treat when his granddaughters would visit and play piano with him, or neighbors would stop by to play guitar and sing. Throughout his life, he enjoyed bowling and golfing on different leagues with his friends and weekly rounds of couple’s golf at Indianhead with Jean. Anyone who knew Denny well also knew that he loved to eat – he’d never turn down a good WI fish fry, especially if it came with potato pancakes!

After retirement, Denny focused his time on family and spent many hours helping his children with home improvement projects and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, plays, recitals, and more. Most recently, he relocated to Waconia, MN with his daughter’s family and was blessed by the many new friends and neighbors he met.

Denny is survived by his children John (Melissa) Volhard of Appleton, WI, and Jina (Fred) Burman of Cologne, MN, granddaughters Rowen, Ragen, and Reese Volhard, grandsons Cooper and Porter Burman, brother Michael (Sandra) Volhard, and sister Jeannie (Glenn) Wendt, as well as many nieces and nephews. Denny was preceded in death by his loving wife Jean, parents Leo and Marian Volhard, and brother Lawrence Volhard.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, Feb 28th, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 603 4th Street in Mosinee. The Rev. Aaron Becker will officiate.
