Herbert M. Schremp

February 7, 1930 — July 7, 2021

Herbert Melvin Schremp, 91, Mosinee, passed away peacefully at home on July 7, 2021, with his family by his side.

Herb was born at his family home in Antigo, Wisconsin, on February 7, 1930, the son of the late Theodore & Emma (Zimmerman) Schremp. He was the last living of his 9 siblings.

Herb graduated from Antigo High School in 1948. After graduation he continued his education at the Gale Institute of Minnesota and went on to work as an agent/telegrapher for the Milwaukee Railroad for 26 years at both the Rothschild & Mosinee depots. He married his high school sweetheart Verna (Lang) Schremp in 1949 at St. John's Catholic Church, Antigo, Wis., celebrating their 71st anniversary this past year. Herb's job eventually brought he and Verna to Mosinee, where they went on to raise their six children. When the Milwaukee Railroad began closing many of their area depots, Herb began working for the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He delivered mail through rain, sleet, and snow for 29 years until his retirement in 1995. He and Verna enjoyed many wonderful trips during retirement and made many new friends along the way.

Faith and family were very important to Herb, and he instilled those values in all his children. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee, a former church lector, and past president of the St. Paul Church Council. He also served on the St. Paul Cemetery Association board of directors and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Verna, and children, Sandra (Tom Hecox) Jacobson ,John (Mary) Schremp, Connie (Rory) McKellips and Bill (Kelly) Schremp; daughter-in-laws, Cheri Schremp and Karen Schremp Schinker; his grandchildren, Colleen Wasmundt, Bradley Jacobson, Brent Jacobson, Kelly Schmidt, Kristy Hecox, Jennifer Schremp, Kristen Schremp, Kayln Schremp, Nick Schremp, Courtney Kuklinski, Melissa Holtz, Brooke Bargender, Greg Schremp, Jeff Schremp, Nick Thomas, Cory Jarocki, Eric Schremp and Alex Schremp. Herb was also blessed with 27 great-grandchildren who brought him much happiness the past years, along with many nieces and nephews. On Father’s Day, with much joy, he was told there would be another great-grandchild to welcome into the family early next year.

He is preceded in death by his sons, Kenneth and James Schremp, a grandson, Ryan Schremp, a son-in-law, James Jacobson, his sisters, Irene Keen and Elsie Winnega, and brothers, Raymond, Lawrence, Ernest, Lester, Morris, Harvey and Robert Schremp

Herb's family would like to express a sincere thank you to the Aspirus Cancer Center Drs. Platta and Peterson, Gail and all the nursing staff at Aspirus Special Procedures, and the Aspirus Hospice staff for their wonderful care of Herb.
