James Duane Pagel

October 19, 1931 — December 3, 2016

James Duane Pagel, 85, formerly of Mosinee, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 3, 2016 under the care of North Central Healthcare, after a long battle with Parkinson’s & lewy body dementia.

James was born in Bancroft, WI on October 19, 1931 to the late Clarence and Margaret “Manley” Pagel. In 1949 he graduated from Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, WI. He was on the varsity basketball team and varsity baseball team. His love for sports continued after high school when he played semi-pro baseball.

In 1952 Jim was drafted into the United States Marine Corps. As a wireman in Japan. In March of 1954 Corporal James D. Pagel was released from active duty to the reserves until March of 1960 at which time he received Honorable Discharge and the National Defense Services: Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.

Upon returning home he married Barbara Meler on May 15, 1954 in Milwaukee, WI. They resided in Milwaukee. They had 2 children James Jr and Karen. He was employed at Otis Elevators and later joined partnership with his dad, and brother in law to form Pagel Hydraulics, Milwaukee. In 1975 he moved north to Mosinee, WI to open his own business J. D. Pagel Inc.

Jim was a very active outdoor sportsman. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting. He had his own saw mill, and was growing ginseng for 10 years.
He loved watching sports on tv especially the Brewers & Packers. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by, Daughter Karen (Richard)Spatz, Mosinee, Granddaughter Rebecca (Bryan Fagan) Spatz Mosinee, Great Grandchildren Connor, Tyler Kratwell, and Madelaine, Kalyn Fagan, Sister in Law Claudia Marinkovich, Menomonee Falls. His son, wife, and other family preceded him in death.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016, at Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee. The Rev. Marilyn Lange will officiate. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Mosinee. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of services, at the Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at
