Adalyne Osterbrink (Houf)

May 31, 1930 — November 21, 2021

Adelyne A. Osterbrink, 91, Mosinee, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, at Care Partners, Stevens Point, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

Adalyne was born and raised on the family farm in the town of Mosinee. Attending a one-room school thru the 8th grade, she would walk to and from the school which was about a mile away from her home. As an adult, she later acquired her GED at NTC in Wausau, WI, an accomplishment she was very proud of.

Our mom was a homemaker, being a great cook and baker. Her homemade breads which were kneaded by hand, turned into donuts, kolache (a Bohemian fruit-filled donut), caramel rolls, and other goodies, were favorite treats for so many. She made the best fried/baked chicken and a Bohemian style recipe with cream. She belonged to the local “Homemakers” group in the town of Marathon, a monthly event she especially looked forward to. Mom loved to do many crafts and sewing. She sewed many of our clothes growing up, as well as for herself and others. Her bowling team in Marathon also had shirts/skirts sewed by her, all matching of course. She was always crocheting. Barbie doll clothes for the grandkids, tablecloths, pillow covers, jewelry, doilies, shelf liners… you name it, she crocheted it. Many gifts of her artwork were given to family and friends who admired and cherished these pieces. She was handy with a saw, hammer, and nails so anything we couldn’t afford she wound up making, sometimes with the help from dad. The entire house we all grew up in, on several different occasions, were painted and wall papered to match the color of the era. We kids could have whatever color and style bedroom we wanted and would make bed coverings sewed to match the walls.
Above all else, mom was a strong Christian and loved the Lord with all her heart. She taught by example to her children and those close to her, to love each other, never stay mad at someone, and have Jesus in your heart and mind. She was a kind person. Always accepting of anyone, regardless of skin color/gender/race.
Our mom will be truly missed by many.

Survivors include her children, Shirley Bremer of Wausau, Lois (Mike) Wichlacz, Danbury, Wis., Allen (Marnie) Osterbrink, Eland, WI; Glen Osterbrink and Katie Osterbrink, both of Plover; her grandchildren: Samantha Bremer Gloria (Jon), Jonathan Wichlacz; Lesley, Rachel (Rich) Vanish; Henry (Holly) Osterbrink; Sara (Emily) Savage, Joe (Adrianne) Osterbrink; Megan (Jonny) Goodwin; and Amanda Tautges; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Philip, brothers and sisters, Antonia (Jack) Kleist, Bertha (Ed) Moen, Cecelia (Bill) Tripp, Stanley (Adeline) Houf and Julius (Virginia) Houf.

Services will be at 11 a.m. December 11, 2021, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Wausau. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Marathon. The Rev. Eric Hauan and the Rev. Bruce LaMonte will officiate.
