Olga Hornung

July 18, 1932 — October 15, 2025

Mosinee

Olga Hornung, 93, Mosinee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at Dimensions Living in Stevens Point, WI, surrounded by her family.

Olga was born on July 18, 1932, in Chicago, IL, daughter to the late Steven and Mary (Kopinski) Hamenka. She married Gordon L. Hornung on December 15, 1952, in Marathon, WI. He preceded her in death on March 27, 2001, after 48 years of marriage. Theirs was a love that she held dear to heart.

Olga worked at M&M Mars, in Chicago IL before she and Gordon moved to Mosinee in 1969, to raise their daughter, Cathy. In 1975 Olga accepted a position as special education assistant/aide at the Mosinee Elementary School. She was very proud and protective of the children in her charge. In retirement, she held a seasonal job at Maple Ridge Farms, working until she was 80. She was active in St. Paul’s Home & School Association, St. Monica’s Council and the Mosinee VFW Women’s Auxiliary #8733.

Nothing brought Olga greater joy than spending time with her grandchildren, Adam & Katie. Gma always made sure every visit provided them with a full belly and her, with a full heart. She would attend their school functions and sporting events and was always their biggest cheerleader. If it was important to them, it was important to her.

Olga was very proud of her flower room and loved to share stories and pictures of whatever was currently in bloom. Throughout her life she enjoyed bowling, traveling, fishing with her nephews, gardening, canning and playing cards and dominoes. Her card playing groups (lovingly referred to by our family as the Yaya’s) provided her with many years of friendship and fun in both Mosinee & Marathon. You ladies are blessed to have each other in this season of life.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jane Ziemanski, NP, for her loving care & friendship over the years. You held a special place in mom’s heart. And to our team from Interim Hospice: Hanna, Wendy, Jill, Rachele, Julie & Bonnie. The guidance, care & support you provided us went well beyond our wishes. Words cannot express the impact that you have made on our lives.

Olga is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Paul) Davis, Stevens Point; grandchildren, Adam Kluz, Mosinee, and Katie (fiancé Trey Zagrzebski) Davis, Plover; siblings, Patricia (Cy) Lepak, Cumberland, and Steve Hamenka, Spring Valley, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews who were important to “Ciocia” Olga. Besides her husband Gordon, she was preceded in death by a sister Jean Baron.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. The Rev. Aaron Becker will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Paul Cemetery, Mosinee. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m., until the time of service, all at the church.
