Lewellyn Albert Nest

Lewellyn A. Nest, 84, Mosinee, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, January 22, 2023, surrounded by his family.

He was born on Sept. 27, 1938, in Halder, WI, son of the late Claude and Lula (Maguire) Nest.

Lew was raised on a small farm in Halder, WI, in a family with five boys. After graduation he entered military service in the Army. He worked at Mosinee Paper Corporation for over 35 years. He married Jean Werkheiser on Oct. 26, 1974, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wausau, she survives.

Lew was a simple, hardworking, humble man. He excelled at patience and kindness. He took his role as a father very seriously and was extremely proud of all his daughters. It was a great honor to be recognized by the Knights of Columbus as family of the year 1990 – 1991.

He enjoyed sports, both participating and watching. He played softball and was an avid bowler. Baseball was his ultimate love. The Cubs were his favorite team, he was a life long Cubs supporter. He also followed the Brewers and Packers, Lew loved attending any sporting event for his daughters, and many nieces and nephews.

He was a devout Catholic, he served as an altar boy and usher for mass. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus Member. And even served as Grand Knight. Lew was also Knight of The Year in 1990 – 1991.

Besides his wife Jean, he is survived by his children; Donna Stankowski, Aniwa, Michele (Steve) Schroeder, Janesville, Dawn (Mark) Gruber, Burlington, and Shannon (Brad) Jacobson, Mosinee; grandchildren, Zachary, Brianna, Kristen, Cody, Kyle, and Josh; great-grandchildren, Claire and Wilder, Dylan, Tristan, Easton, Sabastian, Peyton, Jace, Kayli and Rysley; brothers, Jerry Nest, Kronenwetter, and Robert (Carol) Nest, Wausau, and a sister-in-law, Mary Nest, Mosinee. Besides his parents, Lewellyn was preceded in death by his brothers, Roger and Al Nest, and sister-in-law Suzi Nest.

Funeral Services will take place on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul Catholic Church, Mosinee. The Rev. Aaron Becker will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery, Halder. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
