Mosinee

Nancy L. Vera, 87, Mosinee, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at Marshfield Medical Center, Weston.

She was born on November 8, 1938, in Wausau, WI. Daughter to the late Louis and Helen (Tyskiewicz) Kwiatkowski. She married Ernest Vera on February 8, 1958, in Milwaukee, WI, he preceded her in death in 2008. Nancy and Ernie owned and operated the “Up The Hill Bar” in Pike Lake for 14 years until 1995. After they moved to Mosinee she began a career with Hancock Fabrics to keep her in fabric for the hundreds of clothes and costumes she loved to make for all the grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Nancy was a devout Catholic who raised her children to know and follow Jesus which brought her great peace and joy. She had a servant’s heart always caring and giving to those she saw in need and volunteering her time, talents, and cookies for countless events at St. Paul’s. Nothing brought a broader smile to her face than spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren playing, reading, coloring, and of course, making cookies and knitting afghans for all of them, including some of her children’s friends. Nancy was known for baking many types of Christmas cookies enjoyed year-round. Empty cookie tins often made their way back to her for refills with kind notes of thanks and appreciation.

Nancy is survived by her children; Ernest (Lynn) Vera of Sunderland, England, Mark (Noel) Vera of Edmond, OK, Steve Vera, Jenny Vera of Hatley, Kathryn (James Walter) Mottl of Plainfield, IL, Theresa (Bobby Lee) Hoffmann of Hatley, Ann (Tom) Ahles of Wausau. Grandchildren, Robert, Dana, Jessica, Cheyanne, Dustyn, Adam, Danielle, Sydney, ReHanah, Savanah, Laura, Garrett, Neil, and Heather; great-grandchildren, Elaina, Nicholas, Isabella, Harrison, Alicia, Melody, Sierra, Hudson, Jax, Leah, Jameson, Avaylah, and Breven. Nancy is also survived by siblings John (Janice) Kwiatkowski of Powell WY, Jean Oppermann of Wausau, Louis (Janie) Kwiatkowski of McFarland, and Charles (Frances) Kwiatkowski of Columbia, SC; as well as a brother-in-law, Terry Klegin and many nieces, nephews and Uncle Tom Tyskiewicz.

Besides her parents and husband Ernie, Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Alice Klegin who survived 35 years after receiving a kidney from Nancy.
