Mary C. Hebert

April 15, 1927 — June 12, 2025

Wausau

Mary Constance Hebert (Connie) of Wausau age 98, died peacefully on - (date), while in the care of hospice. Connie was born April 15, 1927, to parents Francis and Mae Ryan in Stanton Wisconsin. Her family moved to Bayfield, Wisconsin when Connie was three. After graduating from Bayfield High School in 1944, Connie enrolled in the nursing program at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated from the intense, three-year nursing program in 1947. After graduation Connie worked as a registered nurse at a Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Glen Lake Minnesota, beginning her lifelong career in nursing.

She married “the love of her life” Len Hebert, who also grew up in beautiful Bayfield, June 3, 1950. Over their 48 years of marriage, they had six children: Fred (Carol) Junction City, WI, Joe (Rebecca) Meridian MS, Molly (Mark) Hayden, ID, Jim (Cynthia) Oakland, CA, Bart (Mary) Arbor Vitae, WI and Dan (Lynn) Roseville, CA. Connie and Len started their married lives in Glidden, Wisconsin where Len taught history and physical education, and coached basketball, baseball and track. They moved to Littlefork, Minnesota in 1959, where dad became the high school principal. In 1966 Len became the principal of Mosinee High School, where they lived and worked until retirement in 1984. In each of the above communities Connie worked as a registered nurse; yes, she was a very busy mom and wife. Mom and dad were a great team, working together at their jobs and home to allow us to grow and thrive. We always knew their expectations of us and we were unconditionally loved. As we grew older, we realized we had won the lottery in life with awesome parents.

After retiring, mom and dad moved to Bayfield to enjoy the fruit orchards and beauty of their hometown. In retirement, Connie enjoyed working in the Washburn hospital, working retail at JoAnne’s Scandinavian, doing volunteer work at church and spending time with family, friends and especially grandchildren. When dad died in 1998, mom stayed in Bayfield a couple years before moving to New Richmond, Wisconsin to be surrounded by her wonderful Irish relatives. In 2011 Connie moved to the assisted living community of Primrose in Wausau, where she resided until her death.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, brother Larry and sister Winifred, husband, Len, sons, Dan and Joe and great granddaughter Emma. She is survived by her children/son-daughter-in-laws: Fred (Carol), Rebecca, Molly (Mark), Jim (Cynthia), Bart (Mary) and Lynn. At the time of her death Connie had 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Aspirus hospice and the wonderful, loving staff at Primrose. Mom was blessed to be surrounded by so many competent, caring people. The family will be holding a private ceremony in Bayfield at a future date to place mom’s remains next to dad. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements.
