Marcella B. Sitko, 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026, surrounded by her family, at Cedar Creek Manor.
Marcella was born on October 23, 1930, the second youngest among 12 children to the late Joseph and Mary (Ponczoch) Kroening. Marcella married Edward P. Sitko on July 15, 1953, and together they had three wonderful children. Edward preceded her in death on February 17, 1984.
Anyone knowing Marcella knows what a free spirit she was. She loved to TALK!! If she didn’t know you, she made it a point to introduce herself and visit. Her infectious personality touched so many and made it easy to love her. Everyone who knew her has a story to share!
Marcella’s outgoing personality contributed to her success in life. While raising three children, she helped maintain the family farm while consecutively serving as the Town of Kronenwetter Treasurer from 1961 to 1974. Following her retirement from farming, Marcella took the position of Deputy Clerk for the City of Mosinee from 1977 – 1985 and becoming the City of Mosinee Clerk in 1985 until her retirement in 1996. Her 30+ years of public service dedication privileged many residents who had benefited from her work.
Marcella had many hobbies. She loved to travel, played pool, was a shrewd poker player, loved the one-armed bandit at the many local casinos and was the queen of Bingo! Besides play time, she took great pride in her yard. One could bet seeing her almost daily on her riding lawn mower with her floppy sun hat– often mowing an extra swatch around the lawn - growing her yard to nearly 2 acres! Flowers were also her passion. There were many trips to local gardening centers to find the most unique flowers.
Marcella was a person of faith and believed in celebrating mass every Sunday. She practiced her beliefs in her daily life with joy being her highest fulfillment. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with her family. Whether it be simple like sharing a daily cup of coffee, cooking a family meal with the best homemade bread ever, to celebrating a special occasion, she was there for us. She was our family’s rock.
Having outlived most of her peers, Marcella remained a respected pillar of our community and was loved by many. She was a strong, hard-working, elegant, fun-loving mom, grandma, great grandma, great great grandma, aunt, neighbor, and friend who will be greatly missed by all. She truly was the Matriarch of Peplin!!!!
Marcella is survived by her children, Kathryn (Randy) Grieser, Mary Jo Maly, and daughter-in-law, Yvonne Sitko; grandchildren, Matthew Grieser, Keith (Tina) Sitko, Angela Borchardt; great-grandchildren, Bryanna Jo Sitko, Alex Sitko, Brooke Sitko, Justin (Grieser) Wanie, and Kirstin (Grieser) Wanie, a great-great grandchild, Marcus Rykowski; step-grandchildren, Troy (Kim) Krezine, and Tara Stich, and step-great-grandchildren, Cristian Krezine, Carson Krezine, Jake Stich, Kamryn Stich, Katie Stich, and Ben Stich. Besides her parents and husband, Edward, Marcella was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Sitko, and son-in-law, Jeff “Lenny” Maly; she was also preceded in death by all her siblings; Margaret, Bernard, Irene, Melvin, Marie, Helen, Jerome, Dorothy, Lorretta, Leon and Agnes.
The family would like to extend a special thank you for the staff at Cedar Creek Manor for the exceptional care they provided to their “grandma”, Aspirus Health – Hospice for their compassion, and Rev. Aaron Becker and Deacon Kevin Breit for their special prayers.
