Alfred Joseph King

November 24, 1925 — March 8, 2017

Alfred J. King, 91, Kronenwetter, died March 8, 2017, at Aspirus Hospital, Wausau.

He was born on Nov. 24, 1925, the son of the late Jacob and Emma (Fochs) King. He married Josephine Okrzesik on June 30th, 1953 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Peplin. She preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 2011.

Alfred was a United States Army Veteran. He was very instrumental in starting the Peplin VFW Post 8280 in 1976. He served as the Post’s First Commander for eight years and was instrumental in the purchase of land which is now the location of the VFW Post. He was the Commander of the Posts Honor Guard for 40 plus years. He believed that all Veterans should be honored for their Military Service. Alfred was gifted the honor of traveling to Washington D.C. with the Never Forgotten Honor Flight in 2011. He was also a public servant for 27 years, he served the public as the Town Chairman of Kronenwetter, County Board Supervisor and Town Assessor. Alfred was a dairy farmer. While farming, he served on numerous Local, State and National Agricultural Boards and Committees advocating for the good of agriculture. He believed in service to others. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He also loved the outdoors, he could be found picking mushrooms in fall and cutting wood for the winter supply. He enjoyed the trips he took on the train to visit friends. Alfred was a friend to many, young and old, he treasured his chance to connect with his younger friends. He always valued teaching others how to learn to do things for themselves. He gave advice and taught us all lifelong lessons. He would often be heard saying “use your head for more than just a hat rack.” Alfred accomplished many things and his knowledge has had the ripple effect. Many have benefited from his vast knowledge and helpfulness.
