Margaret “Peggy” Guenther, 93, passed from this life to eternal life on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at Lake View Heights Dementia Unit of the North Central Health Care Facility, Wausau, under the care of Aspirus Hospice.
Margaret was born on June 27, 1923, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Hahn) Springer in Knowlton. In her younger years, Margaret ventured to Chicago and Milwaukee to work for several businesses. Upon her return to Central Wisconsin, she was employed at the original JC Penny store in Wausau until meeting the man she would marry.
On May 28, 1949 Margaret married Don Guenther at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Knowlton. They remained life-long member of this church. Margaret taught CCD, was an active member in St. Jude’s Circle until it disbanded and then became an active member in St. James’ Circle, and was also a past president of St. Francis Cabrini Society.
Margaret was a dedicated, religious and loving wife, Mother, mother-in-law and Grandmother. She worked outside the home for 30 years; the first 20 years were spent waitressing at the Antler’s Supper Club on Lake DuBay and then spent the remaining years at Herschner’s in Stevens Point. She spent most of her retirement years with Don “on the road taking the scenic route”, usually along “the Old Miss” or to Gays Mills to see the bluffs and buy apples.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Don; a daughter, Lynne (John) Ahles; a son, Mark (Ann) Guenther; a granddaughter, Emma (Chris) Macneil; a grandson, Whaley James Guenther; three sisters-in-law, Lottie Guenther, Lillian Springer and Lottie Springer; and a brother-in-law, George Guenther. She is preceded in death by her oldest son, John; sisters Elizabeth and Loretta; brothers, Harry, George, Ben and Ernie; numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the outstanding and devoted care that Margaret received during her residency at Lake View Heights Dementia Unit – NCHC, and the help that she and her family received from Aspirus Hospice.
