Gregory Mark Maly

Gregory Mark Maly, 65, Mosinee, passed away peacefully at Aspirus Hospice House on June 14, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer.  He slipped away while surrounded by family and loved ones.

Greg was born April 6, 1958, in Wausau, son of Lorraine (Miller) and the late Fred Maly.  He graduated from Mosinee High School in 1976, and then attended UWSP.

He worked for 46 years at the Mosinee Papermill from 1977 until his retirement in 2023.  He earned an electrical apprenticeship from NCTI, and became the Mill’s Chief Electrician (the go to guy!).  He had many friends at the mill, and both his knowledge and friendship will be dearly missed.

Greg learned to play guitar at an early age, and loved to entertain friends, family, fellow campers, and the community with his singing and masterful guitar playing.  In his youth, Greg enjoyed camping, dirt bikes, motor cross and muscle cars.

Survivors include his mother, Lorraine Maly; sisters, Cynthia (Richard) Maly-Beranek; and Suzanne (William) Epstein; niece, Jennifer (Robert) Kaas; nephews, Christopher Epstein and Matthew (Alisha) Beranek; great nieces, Isabella Kaas and Ella Beranek; and great nephews, Blake Beranek and Owen Kaas.  He was preceded in death by his father Fred Maly and brother John Maly.

Services will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 22, 2023, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Knowlton. The Rev. James Trempe will officiate. Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery, Knowlton. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the time of service at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Marshfield Hospital and Aspirus Hospital for supporting Greg in his efforts to fight cancer, and a special thanks to the caring and compassionate staff at Aspirus Hospice House.
