David “Moe” B. Mascotti, age 68, passed away on July 25, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital due to acute respiratory failure.
David was born on September 15, 1957, in Wausau, Wisconsin, to Bernard and Norma Mascotti. David graduated from D.C. Everest High School in Wausau in 1976. During high school, he was an accomplished athlete, participating in football and track, including pole vaulting. In 1975, he was named an All-Conference running back and was also selected as a Channel 7 All-Star Offensive Player.
After high school, David continued his football career at Milton College in Milton, Wisconsin. He later began his career as a general laborer and went on to retire from Graphic Packaging in 2016.
Outside of work, David enjoyed the simple things in life and was always happiest doing what he loved. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing pool, attending concerts, and spending time with family and friends. He had a love for sports that stayed with him throughout his life, and one of his greatest joys was watching his great-niece, Eliana “Ellie,” play volleyball. He was incredibly proud of her and never missed an opportunity to cheer her on throughout her high school and college career.
David will be remembered not only for his love of sports and the outdoors, but for the memories he made with the people around him. He was a brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Norma Mascotti.
He is survived by his sister, Gina Mascotti of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin; his nephew, Dominic Mascotti (Robyn) of Holmen, Wisconsin; his great-niece, Eliana “Ellie” Mascotti of Onalaska, Wisconsin; best friends, Dave Krieg of Nekoosa, Wisconsin and Scott Reynolds of La Crescent, MN; along with many other friends who will forever cherish his memory.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this fall in Wausau and La Crosse, Wisconsin. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.bestefh.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to help with final expenses.
