Colton J. Lewens, 27, formerly of Mosinee, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at his home in Appleton.
Born on April 13, 1999, he was the first child of Steven and Sandra (Steponik) Lewens. After graduating from Mosinee High School in 2017, he honorably served four years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps and was currently fulfilling his Reserve commitment. Colton was getting his Electrical Mechanical degree from Fox Valley Technical College.
A true outdoorsman, Colton felt most at peace at the family cabin. He spent many days fishing, hunting, and playing cards, carrying this passion for nature throughout his life. After completing his active Marine Corps service, he took a scenic drive home, visiting Yosemite and Yellowstone National Parks along the way. He loved annual fishing trips to North Dakota with his Dad, Isaac, Grandpa Lewens, and family friends, and had recently discovered a new interest in salmon fishing. The fall deer hunting season was a yearly highlight, filled with card games at the shack and the pursuit of the next big buck.
Beyond his outdoor pursuits, he was a lifelong reader who could often be found devouring books from the local library. During his time in the Marine Corps, he developed a love for live music and attended many concerts, with Smash Mouth being his most recent concert.
Colton spent every 4th of July of his life at Camp Moran. He valued this time with a close-knit group of friends and family, and even earned the notorious honor of being the 2025 Bags Champion.
Colton is survived by his parents, Steven and Sandra Lewens; siblings, Gabrielle and Isaac; grandparents, Barb Steponik and James and Mary Lewens; and his aunts, uncles, and cousins: James and Robyn Steponik, Michelle Trumm and son Pete, and Ryan and Andrea Lewens and their children Elliana, Sophia, and Charlotte. Colton was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Steponik, and his uncle, Pete Trumm.
His family and friends will greatly miss Colton. Those who had the privilege of knowing him knew he loved with his whole heart and would do anything to help others.
