Margaret Josephine Baur (Obernberger)

Margaret Josephine Baur, age 89 of Halder, WI passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday October 12, 2022, at Acorn Assisted Living, in Mosinee, WI.

Margaret was born November 27, 1932, in Halder, WI to John and Lucy Obernberger.

She attended school at St. Roberts in Halder until the 8th grade. During her time at St. Robert’s school, she met the neighbor boy down the road that would throw snow at her, Neil Baur. After falling in love, they married on September 3, 1953, in Halder. Soon after they started a family. In the early years of marriage, Margaret traveled with Neil while he served in the United States Army. They formed many lifelong friendships during those years. They eventually came back to Halder and started their own farm. Margaret and Neil farmed for 32 years together with their children. Margaret could often be found driving tractor helping Neil tend to the crops. They retired from farming in 1991.

Margaret was an active member of St. Patrick’s Church (Halder) Parish Council of Catholic Women. She taught many years of CCD and served for the town of Emmet in various polling elections.

Margaret had many hobbies. She enjoyed knitting/crocheting especially newborn hats for St. Joseph’s Hospital Newborn nursery, as well as various other outfits for her grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and was the go-to jean patch seamstress for many worn out jeans. She liked baking and kept her cupboard stocked with cookies, her famous sweet rolls, and apple pie bars. She also enjoyed gardening every summer. She was an avid reader, liked puzzles, and cards. Margaret and Neil shared various hobbies together. She was a member of the Emmet SnowDrifters Snowmobile club. She enjoyed painting the various woodworking projects Neil would make. She was known for sprucing up various rusted bumpers with silver paint from time to time around the farm. Most of all Margaret enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was known for a good sit-down visit but most importantly she was a good listener, friend, mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Neil on April 11, 2016. She is survived by her four children. Roger (Mindy) Baur, Mosinee, Barbara (William) Dahlke, Stratford, Steven (Nan) Baur, Bruce (Lisa) Baur both of Halder. Grandchildren, Jennifer Baur, Kimberly (Richard) Wadzinski, Laura and Michael Baur. Sarah (Derek) Stoner, Maria Dahlke, and Katie (Derryck) Gee, Nicholas, Patrick, Kayla (Trevor) Bielen. Heather and Julie. Great Grandchildren, Piper and Addilyn Wadzinski and Sydney Stoner.

Margaret is also survived by her two sisters, Ann Brod, Verona Steinke, and brother John Obernberger Jr.

Additionally, she is survived by her sister in laws June (Leo) Baur, Delores (Merlin) Baur, and Yvonne (Baur) Ward.

Margaret moved into the Acorn Hill Assisted Living and was fortunate to eventually be around her sister Ann, sister-in-law Delores, and cousin Betty there.

A Memorial service will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Halder, WI, on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 11:00 am. The Rev. Joseph Nakwah and Rev. Donald Meuret will concelebrate. Burial will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery, Halder. Family will receive friends and family at 9:00am until the time of service, all at the church. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be directed to the family at www.bestefh.com.
