Barbara A. Steponik, 84, of Knowlton, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2026.
Barbara was born in Kentucky on November 22, 1941, the daughter of the late Thomas Wesley and Ethel Virginia Hutchinson. After graduating from Weatherford High School, Barbara married the love of her life, James Steponik. They married on January 21, 1961, in Temple, TX, and enjoyed 64 years of love.
Barbara moved to Wisconsin with her family but still stayed a Southerner at heart. She raised her family on a hobby farm that saw cows, peacocks, turkeys, pet chickens, and even an abandoned raccoon. As her children grew, Barbara became an exceptionally successful real estate agent. She was frequently in the Millionaire Club and became friends with many in the community. Barbara was a vibrant force of nature who lit up every room she entered, and her contagious laugh brought joy to those lucky enough to know her. While she never fully retired, she and Jim travelled the world. They visited Alaska, Egypt, China, and Europe, along with yearly trips to Mexico with her sister Gail and husband Ted. Barbara was a loving and generous wife, mom, and grandma. She loved her grandkids deeply and spoiled them rotten.
Barbara is survived by her children, Jim (Robyn) and Sandy (Steve) Lewens; grandchildren, Gabrielle, and Isaac Lewens; sister Gail Roe; two brothers-in-law, Ralph Smrecek and Larry Zschernitz; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James; grandson, Colton Lewens; sister Peggy Stults; sisters-in-law Betty Heider, Patricia Smrecek, and Joyce Zschernitz; and brothers-in-law Ted Roe, Fred Stults, and William Heider.
The family would like to thank the staff at Silver Lace Memory Care by Primrose and Moments Hospice for lovingly caring for her.
A private family burial will take place at a later date in City Point, WI. Beste Funeral Home, Mosinee, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences can be directed to the family at www.bestefh.com.
